Race Summary

The 2008 Delaware gubernatorial election was held on November 4, 2008, for an open seat after Democratic Governor Ruth Ann Minner was term-limited and could not seek reelection. Democratic Lieutenant Governor Jack Markell defeated Republican nominee Bill Lee, winning 67.52% of the vote to Lee’s 31.05%. Markell’s victory kept the governor’s office in Democratic hands and began his tenure as Delaware’s chief executive.
