The 2008 United States Senate special election in Wyoming was held on November 4, 2008, to fill the remainder of the term of Republican Senator Craig Thomas, who died in 2007. Appointed Republican Senator John Barrasso defeated Democratic nominee Nick Carter, winning 73.35% of the vote to Carter’s 26.53%. Barrasso’s victory allowed him to serve out the remainder of the term and maintained Republican control of the seat.
