The 2012 Montana gubernatorial election was held on November 6, 2012, and Democratic Attorney General Steve Bullock narrowly defeated Republican former U.S. Representative Rick Hill with 48.90% of the vote to Hill’s 47.34% in a closely contested race for an open governorship. Bullock’s victory maintained Democratic control of the governor’s office in Montana despite the state’s simultaneous support for Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.
